Marshall Elmer "Tudlar" Johnston, 86, of Calera, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, in the presence of his loving family.

He was born August 22, 1923, in Yarnaby to Marion Lewis and Ida Jane Gann Johnston.

He married Lillie Marie Lyles April 28, 1945, in Hobart and had lived in Roosevelt , Okla., before moving to Tulia, Texas, for several years, before moving to Calera in 1981.

He was a retired farmer and mechanic and was a member of the Country Gospel Lighthouse Church in Colbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Rose Marie Johnston and brother Johnny Johnston.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Lillie Johnston of the home in Calera; children Fay Riley and husband David of Oldfield, Mo., Marsha Colucci of Calera, Kay Potter and husband Ron of Blooming Grove, Texas, Elaine Johnston of Missouri, Jeff Johnston and wife Rosanne of Burneyville, Okla., DeWayne Johnston of Calera and Rodney Johnston and wife Dana of Cartwright; 15 grandkids, 42 great-grandkids, 10 great-great-grandkids; brothers Harold Johnston and wife Glynes of Colbert and Ray Johnston and wife Linda of Seagraves, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Marshall Johnston will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Country Gospel Lighthouse Church in Colbert, with Bro. Billy Joe Beal officiating.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert. Pallbearers will be Chad DuBose, Craig Moody, Michael Colucci, Zack Chaffin, Christopher Stevens and Joe "Jody" Boggess. Honorary pallbearers will be David Johnston, Steven Johnston, Ricky Johnston, Mark Johnston and Tony Johnston.

Family night will be today from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carl Cunningham and Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert at their new location, 120 Burney St.
