Ellen Lorene Brackett Thompson

Lorene Thompson of Bennington passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the age of 105. Lorene was born on January 12, 1918 in Bennington, Oklahoma to Claude and Ora (Sparks) Brackett. She was a lifetime resident of Bryan County, Oklahoma.

Lorene married her husband, Chastain Thompson, in 1936 in Bokchito, Oklahoma where they lived for 59 years until his passing in 1995. She was a hardworking homemaker and lovingly took care of her home and family. She provided well for them by working in the fields, gardening, and canning. Lorene was known to enjoy sewing, and she loved to read as a pastime. She was of the Baptist faith. Lorene will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Orval Thompson of Bennington, Oklahoma, Randell Thompson and wife Linda of Bennington, Oklahoma, Kenneth Thompson of Bokchito, Oklahoma, David Thompson and wife Maxine of Lancaster, Texas, and Richard Thompson and wife Georgia of Bennington, Oklahoma, her sisters-in-law Cleta Brackett Walker of Durant, Oklahoma and Barbara Brackett of Bennington, Oklahoma, as well as her brother-in-law Hoil Thompson. Her legacy lives on with her grandchildren Rick Thompson, Chris Thompson, Joe Thompson and wife Sheila, Toni Reynolds and husband Mitch, Gary Thompson, Russell Thompson and wife Paula, Bradley Thompson and wife Barbara, Stephen Thompson and wife Crystal, Marcus Thompson, Keith Thompson and wife Louann, Karl Thompson, Kelly Thompson and wife Jennifer, Kimberly Thompson, Audra Vandiver and husband Bill, and Darrell Thompson, as well as her 33 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson arriving any day.

Preceding Lorene in death are her parents Claude and Ora Brackett, husband Chastain Thompson, five brothers Delbert, Eugene, C.R., Wayne, and Dan, two sisters Berthie and Lillie May, daughter-in-law Joyce Thompson, two grandsons, one great-great-grandson, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Family Hour is set for Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Faith Baptist Church in Bokchito with Brother Greg Thralls officiating. Lorene will be laid to rest at Bokchito Cemetery following her funeral service.

Those serving as pallbearers are Joe Thompson, Russell Thompson, Bradley Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Darrell Thompson, and Steve Brackett.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Melodie Draper and Linda Edwards for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Bokchito Cemetery at P.O. Box 311, Bokchito, Oklahoma 74726, to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital at P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101, or to a charity of your choice.
