 James Otto Potts was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1927, in Albany, Oklahoma to Theodore Roosevelt and Anna Juanita Dobson Potts and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in Denison, Texas at the age of 85.

Tuffy, as he was known, graduated from Albany High School in 1944. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1947. He married Evelyn Leona Gower on May 31, 1948 in Bennington, OK, and they were blessed with five children. Before retirement, he was a meat salesman and later worked for M.C. Easter and L.P. Frank as a propane salesman and delivery driver. Tuffy was a member of Albany Baptist Church and Albany Masonic Lodge #159. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, fishing, deer hunting, camping, playing dominoes, vegetable gardening, mowing the yard, storytelling, and just visiting with people. He always enjoyed learning and sharing history, especially Oklahoma history.

Tuffy was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Juanita Potts; sisters Wilma "Tot" Williams, Oleta Richardson, and Ann Staton; brothers Ted Louie Potts, Mickey "Jinky" Potts, Jerry Potts, Joe Potts, and Frankie Potts; infant son Anthony Potts, and son-in-law Ronnie Lawson.

Tuffy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Evelyn, of the home; children James M. Potts and wife Marilyn of Hinton, OK, Beverly Lawson of Bokchito, OK, Brenda Neyman and husband Bill of Durant, OK, and Susie Wilson and husband Myron of Bokchito, OK; grandchildren Victoria Rose Mathews and husband Greg of Comer, GA, John Potts and wife Morgen of Moore, OK, Thad Potts of Longdale, OK, Stewart Hoffman and wife Sarah of Durant, OK, and Clint Hoffman and girlfriend Courtney Hughes of New Smyrna, FL; great grandchildren Kane and Kira Hoffman of Durant, OK; brothers Gene Potts of Albany, OK and Larry Potts and wife Linda of Durant, OK; sister Mary Hurst and husband Luther of Emory, TX; sister-in law Betty Potts of Durant, OK; brother-in-law Joe Staton of Yuba, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at Albany Baptist Church. Bro. Jackie Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow in Bokchito Cemetery with Masonic and Military Rites. Pallbearers will be John Potts, Thad Potts, Stewart Hoffman, Clint Hoffman, David Potts, and Danny Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Myron Wilson and Bill Neyman. The family will receive friends at Brown's Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Albany Baptist Church Roof Fund, P.O. Box 97, Albany, OK, 74721.

Services are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service Durant, Oklahoma.
