Mary Joe Frank passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years 10 months 21 days. She was born on Saturday, September 10, 1921, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, to Ernest and Blanche (Johnson) Thornton. Mary Joe married John Paul Frank in Atoka, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 8, 1941.

Mary Joe came to Bokchito in 1938. She attended college in Durant two semesters before marrying Paul. They managed the Frank Brothers Gas Station for approximately eighteen years until Paul’s death. Then she worked at J. C. Penney’s in Durant for sixteen years before becoming the secretery for the city of Bokchito where she remained for 35 years before retiring two years ago. She was active in the First Methodist Church in Bokchito until its last service and for many years served on the Bokchito Cemetery Committee. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Frank is survived by her daughter, Mary Smith and husband Jim of Albany, Oklahoma; son, Louis Paul Frank and wife Krista of Bokchito, Oklahoma; brothers, Bill Thornton and wife Dianne of Gulfport, Mississippi and Earl Thornton and wife Joyce of Clinton, Mississippi; sisters, Fannie R. Thornton of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Lucille Mitchell and husband Roy of Terrell, Texas; grandchildren; Beth Ann Tibodeaux and husband Lane of College Station, Texas, Paul Smith of Edmond, Oklahoma, Deana Paul Frank of Colbert,Oklahoma, Lane Frank of Bokchito, Oklahoma and Gennifer Rose of Bokchito, Oklahoma; 9 great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mary Joe was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Frank; brothers, Homer Thornton and Terrell Thornton; sister, Betty Sue Lewis.

Family Hour will be 7-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, Bokchito, Oklahoma with Bro. Preston Burns and Bro. Phillip Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery Bokchito, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Houston, Douglas Deel, Johnny Bundrandt Jr., James Lynn , John Frank and Danny Whitworth.
