Anthony Wayne Choate, 54, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025 in Durant, Oklahoma after a courageous battle with health issues. Anthony was born on Thursday, May 21st, 1970 at Talihina, Oklahoma to Franklin Choate and Mary Sieger (Polk).
Anthony grew up in Bennington and graduated with the class of 1988. While in school, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. After graduation and at the age of 17, Anthony joined the United States Army to serve our country. After his honorable discharge, he drove a truck for several years before working for the Choctaw Nation as a security officer for 12 years.
Anthony was an avid OU football fan and loved being outdoors for fishing, hunting, and shooting guns. He enjoyed playing cards, board games and working puzzles. Many of Anthony’s favorite memories are being with his nieces and nephews, whom he had a great love for. Anthony was a member of the White Sand Methodist Church.
Anthony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvina and James Polk, and Itsie and Rufus Choate; aunts, Martha Polk and May Choate; and uncles, John Choate and Rufus Choate Jr.
He is survived by his loving family, his dad, Franklin Choate of Bennington; mother, Mary Sieger and husband, Ronnie of Marietta, Oklahoma; sister, Lavonne (Choate) and husband, Dennis Reichert of Leonard, Texas; brothers, Chris Choate of Bennington, and James Hall and wife, Amy of San Antonio, Texas; 1 extra brother, Keenan Billy and wife, Silvia of Marietta, Oklahoma; 3 step-children, Chinah and wife, Jenni Dawson, Destiny, and John; 3 step-grandbabies; 3 nephews, Nashoba Choate and wife, Amber of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Travis Choate of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jamien Hall of San Antonio, Texas; 2 nieces, Toni and Landon Dixon of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Joy Hall of San Antonio, Texas; 3 great-nieces, Tatum, Keigan and Oaklyn Choate of Ardmore, Oklahoma; 3 uncles, Dillard Polk, Willard Polk and wife, Sharon of Bennington, and Melvin Choate of Yuma, Arizona; aunt, Ruth Morgan of Sherman, Texas; and Carol, who was Anthony’s special aide and buddy; along with numerous cousins and extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 7th, at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel in Durant with Mrs. Wilma Brandy officiating. Committal services will follow at Bennington Cemetery with David Rice, Curtis Steve, Morris Steve, Stefan Roberts, Micah Polk, and Keenan Billy serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Choate, Nashoba Choate, Jamien Hall, Jimmy Roberts, and Dillard Polk.
The family hour will take place one hour before the funeral service on Friday at the funeral home.
The Choctaw Nation Honor Guard will have military rites at the cemetery.
