Emma Odean Weinmeister was born June 9, 1927, at Arapaho, OK, to M. W. “Matt” and Glennora “Glenn” Pearl Kimbrel Barrick, and passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 in Enid, OK, at the age of 97, after a short illness. She has been a resident of Enid, OK, for the past twenty-five years.
Odean was raised on a farm three miles South and three miles East of Eagle City, OK. She attended Riverdale School, a one room schoolhouse, through 8th grade, and then spent the remaining four years at Watonga High School, graduating as valedictorian.
On March 14, 1946, Odean married Lloyd H. Weinmeister at Liberal Kansas. They lived in Clinton, Woodward, Guymon, and Elk City, OK, where Lloyd worked as a brick mason, before settling on the farm six miles West and six miles North of Watonga. To this union, five children were born, Frederick, Karen, Brenda, June, and Tim.
Odean worked for E. T. Hoberecht Abstract out of high school; and after her children were in school, worked at T. G. & Y. Stores for a few years, and then was the assistant librarian at the Watonga Public Library until her retirement in 1992. Some older “kids” in Watonga might remember her helping with story hour at the library for many years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for young adults and helped with Vacation Bible School.
Odean was an avid football fan, her favorite teams were the OU Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys, and her favorite players were Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes. She was just happy to watch football and any team at any time.
She was predeceased by her parents Matt and Glenn Barrick; her husband Lloyd; her son, Frederick; her brothers, Harley Dale Barrick and Walter Ray Barrick.
She is survived by one brother Larry Barrick of Bosque Farms, New Mexico; two sisters, Clara Fay Driskell of Enid, OK and Dixie Marker of Hobbs, New Mexico; by her daughters Karen Warner and friend Dennis Campbell of Enid, OK, Brenda and husband Doug Dow of Fairview, OK, and June Weinmeister of Enid, OK; by her son, Tim Weinmeister of Enid, OK; by grandchildren Amber Simpson of Okmulgee, OK, Taran Weinmeister of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lloyd Blane and Diana Weinmeister of Loveland, CO; by five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was a gentle spirit with a quick wit and ready smile, and will be missed by everyone whose lives were touched by her presence.
Visitation will be at Wilkinson Mortuary on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the IOOF cemetery in Watonga, OK, at 2:00 p.m. December, 30, 2024. Rev. Joe DeLaGarza from the Trinity Baptist Church will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through Hospice Circle of Love in Enid, OK.
