Hubert C. "Shady" Ditmore

February 27, 1923 ~ January 9, 2001

Hubert C. "Shady" Ditmore was born February 27, 1923 in Hydro, Oklahoma to Cora Mae Parks and George Carl Ditmore. He passed away January 9, 2001 in his home at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 12 days.

Shady attended school at Eakly and was a salesman for Wilson Packing Company for 23 years until his retirement in 1976. He married Willa May Reid on October 24, 1942. He lived in Weatherford and Sentinel from 1938 until 1955 when he moved to Elk City. He was married to Laverne Townsley Davis at Wheeler, Texas on October 1, 1971 and they made their home in Elk City. Shady was an avid hunter and horseman. He had trained several horses and won several races.

Shady served his County during World War II in the 3rd Army under General George S. Patten in the European Theater. He was a sharpshooter and forward radio operator that fought in six major battles where he received the Bronze Service Star, Silver Service Star and the American Theater Ribbons.

Shady was a member of 2nd and Adams Church of Christ and was also a Charter Member of the BPOE.

He was preceded in death by parents, one brother, Charles Ditmore and 2 sisters, Lora Belle Reynolds and Melba Fay Deming.

Services were held Friday, January 12, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel, officiated by Tom Harguess and Rod Minor. Burial was held at Hydro Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.

Survivors include: wife, Laverne Ditmore of the home; one daughter, Judith Cummings of Seguin, Texas; three sons, Hubert Ditmore, Jr. of Mustang, Oklahoma, John Ditmore, Jr. of Mustang, Oklahoma and David Ditmore of Idabel, Oklahoma; one step daughter, Charline Beebe of Wichita, Kansas; one step son, Robert A. Davis of Elk City, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, host/relatives and friends.
