Doris June (Silks) Scott was born to Frank and Alice Silks in Eagle City, OK on December 7, 1925. She departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Fairview, Oklahoma.
Doris had one sister, Ella (Silks) Miller, and two brothers, Burton and Wilbur Silks. When she was 1 ½ years old the family moved to Carlton. Doris attended school all 12 years at Southard. In 1945, she married G.C. Scott and they moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked at a Civil Services job at Tinker Air Force Base. After moving back to Southard, Doris sold Stanley products. When Blaine County began paving their roads, the Highway Department hired her to keep books for them. After completing the roads in Blaine County, the Highway Department began working in the Enid area. They asked Doris to go to Enid and continue working for them.
In 1946 a daughter was born, Bobbie Sue, with another daughter, Cindy Lou, being born in 1954.
In 1959 G.C. and Doris purchased a cafe in Canton and called it Scotty’s Cafe. They met and fed some famous people at the cafe. Miss Oklahoma Jane Jayroe, the famous oil well fire fighter Red Adair and his crew, the cast and crew of the movie “China Town”, newscaster Danny Williams, movie star William Holden, Channel 9 weatherman Harry Volkman, newscaster Jerry Adams, weatherman Gary England, fisherman Don Wallace, and many others. They operated the cafe for 10 years. After this, Doris went to work for Sav Mor Grocery in Canton as a cashier for 7 years. In 1978, she went to work for Westfahl Agency Tax Service and Bookkeeping. She continued with this business until her health forced her to retire in 2010.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two brothers, her husband, and son-in-law Jim Westfahl.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Westfahl of Canton, Cindy and Tim Hursh of Canton; five grandchildren, Scott and Becky Westfahl of Weatherford, Shelley and Curt Shepherd of Canton, Brandon and Debi Hursh of Canton, Kaleb and Kristin Hursh of Canton, and Rose Janda of Orange, TX; eight great grandchildren, Cody Shepherd, Justin Westfahl, Clayton Shepherd, Makenzie Westfahl, Nathan Janda, Madison Janda, Joseph Janda and Dylan Hyatt; one sister-in-law; two nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Canton Christian Church with Pastor Michael Grigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Cherryvale Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma.
