Michael Shane Ake

Michael Shane Ake
August 17, 1977 ~ January 21, 2022

Michael Shane Ake was born on August 17, 1977 at Okeene, OK to Frankie and Bonita (Rauh) Ake. He lived his first few years in Longdale, OK. At the age of 3, the family moved northwest of Orion where he grew up. During his childhood country and farm life, he enjoyed many adventures that he grew up loving to do. Swimming in the cow tank, blowing up ant hills, hunting and fishing, camping in the backyard, and brush pile weenie roasts. The day his sister came home, he held her for a very short time and looked up and then said “now take her back home”. Bonnie said she was home LOL. That’s when the fun began with the teasing and fighting with his little sister and having to share his swimming tank.

Michael, even as a small child was very smart and loved reading, he was reading and writing even before he was near kindergarten age. He loved tearing toys apart and building them to his own satisfaction, which they were always different to say the least. As Michael got a little older he started tearing down motors and everything he could basically get his little hands on and redesigning to his liking. Bonnie started hiding some of her mixers and things. LOL. One of his proudest moments as a young boy was when he got his first gun. He went by himself and got his first turkey and his first deer.

Michael loved going camping and fishing with his grandpa Frank, grandma Jackie and grandpa Jim and granny Rauh. He also enjoyed going to the races with his uncle Steve Carter and so looked forward to it whether it was cold or hot. They went to Enid one time without coats and they got so cold they left and went to Walmart to get blankets and went back for more racing fun, but that didn’t so work LOL. They sat there for awhile and Steve asked Michael, “are you cold?’ Michael said “yes”. Uncle Steve asked him “do you want to go?’ Michael said “yes”. So they took off again and this time went straight home. LOL.

Michael excelled in band and music, he had an ear for music. He could pick up just about any instrument and play it. His sister would get so upset with him when she was taking piano lessons and trying to practice and he would walk it, listen, then just start playing it by ear. Michael was a great blues and rock and roll guitarist. His ability to play was pretty impressive. Even when he hadn’t played in a few years he could always pick it up and make it sing. Michael loved his little jam sessions with Rick Sharp.

In high school he got great grades without even studying, he loved science and calculus, really anything with numbers and problem solving. His family would throw numbers at him and before they could get the answer on the calculator he had the answer in his head and out his mouth without paper or pencil.

Michael was a member of the Orion Baptist church, ONWAC All Conference team, 94 and 95 and Who’s Who among American high school students. He played percussion for the Seiling band. Michael was also a member of the FBL, FCA, Letterman’s Club and the Academic Team. He graduated from Seiling High School in 1995.

Michael then went to SWOSU to pursue a career in computer engineering. While attending SWOSU Michael was credited for creating a new code to break the ratio of a new atom that was found for NASA.

Michael was known as “Mikey” to all that cared and loved him though out his childhood, that carried into his school years and adulthood. He was a loving, caring son, brother, uncle and grandson.

Michael left this world on January 21, 2022. Michael is preceded in death by his grandfather James Rauh; grandparents Frank and Jackie Ake; father Frankie Lynn and step-mother Paula Ake; and brother-in-law Jerry Arthur Ledford.

Michael leaves behind his mother Bonita and step-dad Lester Schoonover; two step-brothers Cody and Brandon Schoonover; his sister Shandell Ledford; one niece Regan Ledford; two nephews Jerry and Bishop Ledford; his granny Rauh; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; also his beloved cat Mrs. Whiskers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Canton with Pastor Travis Howerton officiating. Interment will follow at Cherryvale Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. Condolence messages may be written at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
