An all-night traditional wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, May 15, 2019 at the Canton Native American Gymnasium for Elmer Charles “Devil” Surveyor, Jr., 68, of Canton, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Canton School Multi-Purpose Building with Coach Rob Davis and Reverend George Akeen, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

Charles was born June 26, 1950 at Clinton, Oklahoma to Elmer Charles and Elizabeth (Lime) Surveyor. He departed this life on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Charles attended school at Longdale, Oklahoma and served his country in the U.S. Army. He served as the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes Tribal Chairman from 1994 to 1998. Charles also served as the town Mayor of Canton.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Felix Roman Nose Surveyor and Maude Walkingwoman Surveyor and Maurice Lime, Sr. and Lucinda Scabbyhorse Lime; He is survived by his wife Renee Meat of the home; three daughters, Eugenia Surveyor, Janita Jones and Dawn Meat of Canton; one son, Sean Meat of Canton; brothers Jerry Surveyor and wife Cordell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Harvey DeWayne Surveyor and wife Cheyenne of Canton, Oklahoma and Orville Whiteskunk of Hammon, Oklahoma; sisters Elizabeth Scroggins and husband Sam of Hugo, Oklahoma, Norma Jones of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Leto Blackhorse and Linda Rhoads; twelve grandchildren, Tia Surveyor, Tirador Pratt, Ryan Charles Surveyor, Staci Michelle Pratt, Shawn Elizabeth Phyllis Surveyor, Jana Colleen Pratt, Theresa Nicole Surveyor, Jessica Webster, Suni Meat, Torre Meat, Megan Guy and Mary Guy; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
