Sherman Smoker
(December 25, 1949 - July 10, 2015)

A traditional indian wake service will be held from 7 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Clinton Indian Community Building, Clinton, OK for Sherman Smoker, 65, of Thomas, OK. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Canton Native American Gymnasium with Rev. Paul Beartrack and Rev. Effie Beartrack officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK.

Sherman Smoker, more lovingly known as Smoke and Aupa, passed away on Friday, July 10th, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. Sherman was born to Issac and Nettie (Hoof) Smoker on December 25th, 1949 west of Canton in Dewey, County. He was then raised by his foster parents, Nellie and David Hamilton in Thomas. He attended Thomas High School, where he held a record in track. After graduating he joined the U.S. Army. He met Willene Medicine Bird in 1975, and together they had two daughters. He lived in Thomas, OK where he made his home with Lou WhiteShield for the past 31 years.

He is preceded in death by both sets of his parents; siblings, George Smoker, Erick Smoker, Gale Smoker, Issac Smoker, Jr., Edna Sue Harris and Mary Wilson; one daughter Christine Louise. He is survived by his companion Lou Whiteshield of Thomas, OK; two daughters, Christy Lou Green and husband Tony and Bonnie Sue Smoker and Kenneth Pratt of Canton, OK; grandchildren Ethan Green, LaShayla Green, Keely Green, Arianna Green, Ariel Green, Aiden Green, Conner Temple, Caiden Temple and Kasey Pratt; two sisters, Mary Kelley of Newcastle, OK and Patsy Sutton of El Reno, OK; as well as numerous family members. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were close to him. Condolences may be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
