Blanche Schiska
(February 3, 1923 - September 30, 2011)

Blanche Delila Schiska, Canton, was born February 3, 1923 on the family farm near Chester, Oklahoma. She died, Friday, September 30, 2011 in Canton, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Canton Christian Church with Pastor Glen Blood and Steve Driskill officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Haiger-Pierce Funeral Home at Canton Cemetery.

Blanche was the fifth of eight children born to Ernest and Pearl (Louthan) Bensch. Attending Lakeside school, Blanche graduated from the eighth grade, after which she continued helping her family with farm chores and with the care of her younger siblings. On February 16, 1946, she and Bill Schiska were married in Liberal, Kansas. They lived briefly in Seiling before moving to Canton and purchasing Champlain Station which they ran for many decades. Blanche’s joy was being with family and friends and showering them with her precious quilts, her wonderful pies and homemade noodles, and giving out her beautiful crochet pieces. Bill and Blanche spent years maintaining a huge garden and delighted in handing out homemade jellies, pickles, and the grandkids’ favorite pickled okra. Blanche was a member of Canton Christian Church, as well as helping out with community functions and committees over the years.

Blanche is survived by her son, Tom and his wife Barbara of Canton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Sueann Baird and her husband Bob of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Brad Schiska and his wife Angela of Fairview, Oklahoma and Craig Schiska of Enid, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jean Bensch, and wife Cork of Chester, Oklahoma; one sister, Letha Sizemore of Seiling, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and a community of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; two children, Terry and Annette; her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
