Arthur Rodriguez was born on January 9, 1932 in Scott City, Kansas to parents Macedonio and Eulogia Rodriguez. He passed from this life on March 22, 2026 in Mustang, Oklahoma at the age of 94.
Art grew up in Scott City, Kansas and graduated from Scott City High School. He attended the National Railroad School in Omaha, Nebraska where he learned telegraphy. He began working for the railroad as a telegrapher and clerk. He was drafted in 1951 and entered the Marine Corps. He was sent to Korea in 1952 and fought in the Korean War. He returned to the United States in June of 1953. After finishing his service in the Marine Corps., he returned to working with the railroad. He joined the Frisco railroad in Enid, Oklahoma where he met his future wife Susan Van Dusen. They were married on June 10, 1958. They moved to Southard, Oklahoma and had three children, Teresa, Johnny and Jimmy.
Art was known for his high energy attitude and his willingness to help others. He enjoyed hunting rocks, sculpting them and making jewelry. He enjoyed spending time in his garden. He and Susan enjoyed their church life. They were very active with their children and later with their grandchildren. He found a special joy with the grandkids. Art and Susan were happily married for 66 years until her passing on August 30, 2024.
Art was preceded in death by his parents Macedonio and Eulogia Rodriguez; wife Susan Rodriguez; and daughter Teresa Kay James; He is survived by two sons, Johnny Rodriguez and wife Misty and their children Libby, Reagan, Daniel, Devon, Jodi and Jordan of Wister, Oklahoma as well as his son Jimmy Rodriguez and wife Katrina and their children Autumn and Dillan of Mustang, Oklahoma. Teresa's children Destiny, Jamie and Heidi. He has thirteen great and great-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, Faith, Lexus, Kolbie, Piper, Sadie, Scout, Noble, Paislee, Adeline, Colter and Alexandria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Okeene, Oklahoma. Interment with military honors rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps. will follow at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. Memorials are suggested to the Veterans of Foreign Wars with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
