A traditional all-night wake service for Dawn LaWayne Meat, 47, of Canton, will begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at the Canton Emergency Response Center, formerly known as the Canton Native American Gym. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the same venue with Pastor Waylan Upchego officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma.

Dawn LeWayne Meat was born September 21, 1973 at Okeene, Oklahoma to parents Elmer Charles Surveyor and Maria Renee Meat. She departed this life on Friday morning, July 9, 2021 at her home in Canton.

Dawn loved OU football and Thunder basketball. She enjoyed going to the Canton casino. She listened to all Native American music, going to powwows and gourd dances. She liked to sing behind the drum at these events. Dawn enjoyed walking through town with her good friends Tyrone Little Coyote and Johnny Green, along with family members Euline, Debbie, and Denise. Dawn was raised in and attended school at Canton. She was with her former companion John Guy for 15 years and from their time together had two daughters.

Dawn was preceded in death by her father Charles Surveyor; uncle Jerry “Bo” Surveyor and aunt Liz Scroggins and Linda Rhoads.

Survivors include her mother Renee Meat of the home; daughters Megan Guy and Mary Guy, both of Oklahoma City, OK; former companion John Guy of Harrah, OK; sisters Eugenia “Dada” Surveyor, Janita “Goat” Meat-Jones, Paula Meat and Charity Meat, all of Canton, OK; one brother, Sean Meat of Canton, OK; aunts and uncles Harvey “Wayno” Surveyor of Oklahoma City, OK, Leta and Danny Blackhorse of El Reno, OK, Norma Jones of Broken Bow, OK and Ernestine White Bird of El Reno, OK; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
