Jean Hofacket
(June 5, 1919 - January 12, 2010)

Jean Hofacket, a 44 year resident of Canton, Oklahoma, was born to Ruth Moize and L.A. Duff in McCaulley, Texas on June 5, 1919. She departed this life on January 12, 2010 at Okeene, Oklahoma. Raised in the Dust Bowl and Depression years in West Texas, Jean graduated from Lamesa High School, obtained a teaching certificate from Texas Tech University and began her career as an educator as the only teacher and sports coach in a small one room school house on the plains of West Texas.

Jean served in the United States Army during the Second World War, won several commendations and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following the war, she finished her college education on the G I Bill of Rights. It was during this time she met and married Owen Hofacket her beloved husband of 61years.

Jean and Owen had two children, Jeanie and Tom. During her life in Canton, Jean taught at Canton High School, was a loved and respected member of the community and the First Baptist Church and was known for her gardening, painting, knitting, cooking and lace-making.

She is survived by her husband, son, daughter, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, a sister Marie Augustsen, a brother H.T. Duff, several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Canton First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike McReynolds and Rev. Harold Hook officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

Jean is remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend, an outstanding educator as well as the love, laughter, courage and wisdom she shared with all who knew her.
