Betty Marlene (Thompson) Harris

Betty Marlene (Thompson) Harris
August 3, 1953 ~ October 29, 2023

Betty Marlene Harris was born on August 3, 1953 to Raymond and Lillie (Antley) Thompson in Bossier City, LA at Barksdale Air Force Base and passed away peacefully in her home on October 29, 2023 at the age of 70.

Betty spent her childhood and attended schools in Louisiana, Butler, OK and Elk City, OK. On December 4, 1975 she married the love of her life, David Harris in Canadian, TX. They made their home in Canton, OK from 1975 to 2016, where they raised their three children Robbie, Joel and Amy. Betty was employed by Canton Schools from 1987 to 2013 where she enjoyed working in the school cafeteria for 26 years. Working at the school satisfied everything that was important to Betty. She had a servant’s heart, she was surrounded by her closest friends, she was able to see her children and later oldest grandchildren daily, she didn’t have to wake up early, and she was countless student’s ice cream cone dealer. Buying ice cream for children who wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise was the sole reason she worked for many years. There are countless stories just like that, that sums up Betty’s whole heart. After retiring, Betty and Dave moved to Enid to be closer to their kids, grandkids and doctors for medical reasons.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Patty Dixon and Ellen Thompson; one nephew Shane Thompson; two nieces Christa Combs and Kelli Harris. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Dave of the home; her son Robbie Harris and Kim Murray of Canton, her son Joel (Shelley) Harris of Enid, and daughter Amy (Travis) Jeffries of Enid; her favorite seven people on earth, her grandchildren, Braden (Amber) Harris of OKC, Brent Harris of OKC, Brody, Cade and Joley Harris of Enid, and Iree and Joah Jeffries of Enid; her sisters Susie DeMoss of Longdale, Belinda Roberson of Enid and Mona Snyder of Elk City; one brother Larry Thompson of OKC; a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, and many, many friends.

Betty was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandkids, holding a Pepsi, listening to music, attending (later in life listening to) church, visiting the casino, staying up late and sleeping in. Betty’s love and kindness for others knew no boundaries. Her and her heart of gold will be missed by all who knew her.

Join us in celebrating a life well lived on Saturday, November 4 at Canton School Multipurpose Building at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton OK. Memorials are suggested to Canton Public Schools to assist with students unpaid lunch program with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
