Edith Mae (Chaloupek) Acre

Edith Mae (Chaloupek) Acre
August 7, 1927 ~ June 23, 2022

On August 7, 1927 Edith Mae (Chaloupek) Acre entered this world in the home of her parents John and Audrey (Cook) Chaloupek. She was the second of three children born in the home halfway between Longdale and Canton. She departed this life on June 23, 2022 at the Summers Nursing Facility in Okeene with her children at her side at the age of 94 years, 10 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days.

She began her school life in a one room school called White Oak east of the family farm. Each day she and her brother James would ride the family horse to school. With the closing of the school she attended school at Longdale graduating with the class of 1945.

On October 20, 1946 she married the love of her life Harold Charles Acre at the home of his parents Charlie and Maggie Acre in a double ceremony with Harold’s sister Mamie and Glen Masonhall. Harold and Edith established their home across the road from his parents before eventually moving to live on the Paulsen family farm where they established their farming operation. To this union three children were born, Carlotta Kaye, Dennis Wayne, and Robert Dean.

Edith was an avid gardener growing and canning food for the family. In addition to her gardening, she enjoyed cooking large meals for family gatherings, hired hands, and later meals to the harvest field. She was also an excellent seamstress making most all of the clothes she and Carlotta wore. The list grew to include sport coats for Harold and the boys as well as wedding dresses for Carlotta and her two daughter¬-in-laws. Eventually she would be sewing for the grandchildren even teaching a couple of granddaughters to sew. After Harold’s passing she ventured into the art of quilting making quilts for the grandchildren.

She was a member of the Progressive Home Demonstration Club entering her canning and sewing in the local and county fairs. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Band Mother’s Club while Carlotta was in school.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2000, her parents, her brother James, a son-in-law Byrel England, and a brother-in-law Virgil Parker. She is survived by her daughter Carlotta England of Chester, Dennis and wife Oletha of Fairview, and Robert and wife Mary of Canton. She also leaves nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great granddaughters, a sister Lydia Rose Parker, and nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2022 at Canton United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Hammans officiating. Interment will follow at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Canton United Methodist Church, Canton Fire Dept. or Tradition Hospice with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
