MONSIGNOR PAUL M. VAN DORPE


OKEENE - Monsignor Paul M. VanDorpe, 79, who was affiliated with St. Anthony of Padua Church, Okeene, for 40 years, died Thursday in an Okeene hospital. Last rites will be said by Archbishop Charles Salatka of Oklahoma City and the Rev. Joseph W. Burger, Guymon, a former pastor of St. Anthony's. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today in St .Anthony's Church, Okeene, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Landes-Sisson Funeral Home, Okeene, is in charge of arrangements.

Monsignor Dorpe was born in Belgium in 1899, and was ordained there in 1922. He came to the United States the following year and served in Oklahoma City, Mangum, Hobart and Yukon prior to moving to Okeene.

The esteem in which he was held by the community was reflected in a recently published "Okeene Family History" in which he was included.

Survivors include one brother, Fr. Marcel VanDorpe, Belgium, and a niece, Mrs. Marita DeBruyne, Long Island.
