Joyce June (Beeson) Groves

Joyce June Beeson Groves was born June 5, 1929 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Vida Sylvania and John Winsett Beeson. She was the first cesarean section baby delivered at Sayre Hospital. She passed away September 3, 2015 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 28 days.

Joyce grew up in the Delhi, Spring Creek and Sayre communities. She graduated from Sayre High School in 1948. She furthered her education at Sayre Junior College where she received some of her general education classes. She was married to LeRoy "Booger" Groves at Wellington, Texas on September 28, 1951. After their marriage they lived in Sayre for a short period of time before moving to the McMurtry Ranch close to Groom, Texas. Joyce was employed with the ranch as a cook where she fed the ranch hands and cowboys. In the early 60's Joyce and Booger moved back to the Spring Creek community where they made their home. In 1973 Joyce received her Registered Nursing degree from Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing. After receiving her degree she found employment at Hensley Nursing Home, Mangum Hospital, Elk City Hospital, OU Medical Center, Helena Prison, Home Health and Sayre Correctional Facility until 2001 when ill health forced her retirement. Joyce loved to dance, visiting with friends and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 son, John Lee Groves.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Adams and husband, Steve, Elk City, OK; daughter-in-law, Dora Groves Dunn and husband, Tom, Branson, MO; 7 grandchildren, Chaunda Lister, Edmond, OK, Chelsea Copenhaver, Oklahoma City, OK, Joy Cross, Cordell, OK, Hunter Copenhaver, Sayre, OK, Jason Falkner, Weatherford, OK, Melissa Wray, Bossier City, LA and Jenesa Vaughan, Calgary, Canada; 19 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
