Funeral services for Bernice Smith will be conducted Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel of Elk City with Rev. Ross Craig officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
Bernice Smith was born November 17, 1908 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Andrew Iradell Jackson and Lilly Mae Langshaw Garrett and passed away Monday, February 18, 2002 at the age of 93. Bernice lived in Elk City most all of her life and attended school in Elk City where she graduated. Bernice spent most of her working career as a practical nurse and homemaker. She was an active member of the Herbert W. Armstrong World Wide Church of God and dedicated active 60 year member of Home Extension Clubs. Involved in many community, education and civic projects. Honored and received a national certificate for being an Ageless Hero. Dedicated herself to family, church, community and anyone in need. A very loving, caring, courageous mother.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters, Stacie Harrell, Florence, Ethel, Hugh, Arthur, Fred and one great-granddaughter.
She is survived by one son, Everett Lee Smith of Elk City; one daughter, Katherine Ruf of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Everett Lee Smith, Jr. of Guymon, Gary Smith of Elk City, Samantha Smith of Elk City, Donald Ruf of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren; one nephew, Donald Garrett of Elk City; nieces, Beverly Jones of Elk City and Delana Craig of Midwest City. Many other nieces, nephews and cousins
