John A. Anderson

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. for John A. Anderson, pioneer civic leader, at the First Baptist Church, Sayre, Rev. R.F. Gates officiating.
Mr. Anderson died Sunday, May 15, 1960 at Clinton Hospital. He was born July 1, 1871 at Fort Gibson, Texas.
He made the run in Cheyenne-Arapaho Country in 1892, home steading southwest of Cheyenhne, where he lived for many years before moving to Sayre.
He and his father built the first post office in Cheyenne and he helped built the first Baptist Church in Cheyenne, of which he was a charter member.
When the new church at Cheyenne was dedicated recently he was the only surviving charter member.
He is survived by his wife, Lora Lee of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Cenette, Carlsbad, New Mexico, Mrs. Mae Perkins, Pueblo, Colorado, Mrs. Goldie Mobley, Durango, Colorado; two sons, Gilbert of Nampa, Idaho, Jack of Winterhaven, California; one stepson, Leland Gibbons, San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
Committal will be in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma with arrangements by Scroggins Funeral Home.
