Lucille Velma Ford Windham, longtime resident of Oklahoma City, died on July 25, at the age of 103

Lucille was born on December 2, 1916 in Beckham County near Sayre, Oklahoma to Walter Cynthia Ford and Lucinda Lakey Ford. Lucille married Fred Waylon Windham July 5, 1947. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary before his death in 2002. They had one son, David, who died in 2005.

Lucille attended Sayre Junior College and went to nursing school in Enid, Oklahoma. During World War II she was part of the Army Specialized Training Division in the War Department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Lucille’s career as the Veterans Administrative Officer in Oklahoma City was long-lasting and fulfilling. At the end of her 18-year tenure, she had been involved with the first open heart surgery, kidney dialysis and research where she worked in tandem with many doctors and projects.

During Lucille’s life, she and Fred were lead to work with the youth at church. They would often take the youth on lake trips and teach them to swim, ski and enjoy God’s goodness. As they began to have grandchildren, they spread this love of the outside with them and, as a result, many amazing memories were born.

Lucille and Fred were always involved in charitable institutions. Their favorite became Good Shepherd. Lucille continued volunteering and donating to Good Shepherd until the very end of her life. Another institute that they supported was the George W. Truett Theological Seminary. Before Lucille’s passing, she brought to fruition their long-time dream and desire for their family to be a part of this endowed scholarship fund both in name and in practical application. Lucille continued as an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City.

Her memory will be cherished by grandchildren, Doniece Windham Wilson and husband Charles, David and Laurie Windham, Paul Windham, and Mark and Manuela Windham; seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; plus many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and siblings.

There will be a viewing Tuesday, July 27 from 9-9 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany, OK.

The Celebration of Life ceremony will be a graveside service on Wednesday, July 29, 11:00am at Pioneer Cemetery near Erick, OK.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Good Shepherd charity or a food bank near you.
