William P. "Bill" Smith was born January 30, 1938 in Buffalo, New York to Catherine Rose (Erelt) and Harry Charles Smith. He passed away April 11, 2019 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 12 days.

Bill grew up New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio and joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He was stationed in Georgia, Oklahoma, England, California, Germany, South Carolina during his 23 year career in the service. While Bill was enlisted he was married to Katherine Kay Walters on March 30, 1959 at St. Francis south of Canute, Oklahoma. Together they lived the military lifestyle and raised their children traveling to different bases around the world. Upon his discharge in 1978 they moved Burns Flat, Oklahoma where they made their home and Bill attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was employed with Ed's Conoco in Burns Flat for a few years before being employed with Burns Flat schools where he worked at the bus barn and maintained the facilities, automobiles and buses until his retirement in 2003. Bill was a volunteer with the Burns Flat ambulance and also enjoyed fishing, bowling, yard work, planting flowers and spending time with family and especially attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren school activities and sporting events.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Cecelia Werry, one brother, Charles Smith and a granddaughter, Jessica Ankney.

He is survived by wife, Katherine, of the home; 3 children, Terry Ankney and husband, Jon, Burns Flat, OK, Billy Smith and wife, April, Chester, OK and Mark Smith and wife, Rhonda, Edmond, OK; 10 grandchildren, Geneice Jones and husband, Josh, Brandon Ankney and wife, Jamie, Amber Smith and husband, Kyle Dodds, Brittany Smith, James Scott, Jacob, Madison and Mercedes Klaver, Alanda Lavalleur and husband, Sam and Blake Smith; 8 great grandchildren, Zander, Zachary, Zoe, Braxton, Brylee, Lucas, Linlee, Bensley; 2 brothers, Bobby Smith and wife, Peggy, Ohio, Richard Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 15, 2019, 10:30 AM at St. Matthews Catholic Church officiated by Father Philip Louis.

Burial will be at the St. Francis Cemetery under the direction of Whinery Funeral Service, Elk City.
