Faye Genell Vernon was born May 13, 1930 in New Liberty, Oklahoma to Angie (Marshall) and Luthur Herbert Hartman. She passed away December 1, 2019 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Faye grew up in the New Liberty community where she attended school and worked with her family in the New Liberty General Store. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Hubert Wade Vernon on October 4, 1947 when they eloped to Wheeler, Texas. They remained on the farm for a year before moving to Los Angeles, California where she found employment as a telephone operator. They lived there for 6 years until their son, David, was born and Hubert was offered a job in Jal, New Mexico.  Following Hubert, Faye followed with their family all over southeastern New Mexico and west Texas where they completed their family with the birth of Danny. Faye was a true mother, staying at home and caring for their children. While living in Denver City, Texas she worked as the secretary for the Denver City Church of Christ. Faye and Hubert divided their time between living in Sayre and serving as the caretakers at Black Mountain Ranch in southeastern Colorado and continued to go to Black Mountain Ranch while working as a teachers aid for Sayre Public Schools. After her retirement in the early 90's they remained in Sayre to make their home. Faye enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading and cooking for her family "crispy crunchies". She will always be remembered as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, New Liberty Alumni Association, Maintaining the Sayre Church of Christ flowerbeds, keeping a beautiful yard and garden and especially for all the love and support that she showed toward her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, Hubert, son, David Vernon; 1 sister and 3 brothers.

She is survived by her son, Danny Vernon and Debbie Sharum, Sayre, OK; daughter-in-laws, Sue Vernon, Lubbock, TX, and Marla of Sayre, OK; 6 grandchildren, Tommy Vernon and Michelle, Lubbock, TX, Ty Vernon, West Lake Village, CA, Tim Vernon, Lubbock, TX, Kadi Poole and CJ Hagerman, Sayre, OK, Jake Vernon and wife, LaNell, Sayre, OK and Travis Vernon and Laramee Henry, Sayre, OK; 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Friday, December 6, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Sayre Church of Christ officiated by Billy Clabaugh.

Burial will be in the Lone Oak cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
