Submitted by: Wanda Purcell
Dr. Wesley I. Wimberly of Hammon, died at his home in that city last Friday after a brief illness of influenza.
The news of his death was a shock to the people of this city, because of the surprise and the deep feeling of sorrow that came with news of his untimely demise.
Dr. Wimberly has many warm friends and acquaintances here who intensely grieved because of his death.
He was an ardent supporter of the government during the war, always taking an active part in all patriotic activities.
He served as campaign director in Kiowa township for all Red Cross drives, and always was among the first to report "over the top".
He also served as food administrator for the county.
Early in the war he was denied the privilege of entering the service on account of his eyes.
Dr. Wimberly was a zealous Christian worker and a member of the Masonic lodge, which fraternity took charge of the ceremonies at Elk City Saturday. Members of the order from this place were in attendance and participated.
Burial took place in Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City.
The Star extends condolences to the bereaved.
