Roy James Fowler

Roy James Fowler was born at home on September 10, 1913, to Coral "Carl"
Rue and Hettie Caroline Hart Fowler. After a lengthy illness, Roy died
Sunday at the Elk City Nursing Center, at the age of 83 years.

Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Whinery-Savage chapel,
officiated by Steve Lowrance, and assisted by Isaac Snow.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.

Roy's parents were born in Texas in the early 1980's. They moved from
Young County, Texas, to the Sandstone community, Roger Mills County,
Oklahoma, where they homesteaded in 1900. Carl and Hettie Fowler had three
children. Ruby H. Fowler Thompson and twin boys, Roy J. and Clarence R.
Fowler.

Roy attended Sandstone School and graduated from Herring High School in
1933. While attending high school, Roy and Clarence drove the school
buses. On November 12, 1939, Roy married Ada Edna Daugherty, in the home
of her parents, Robert Lee and Euna Edna Daugherty, who resided in the
Merritt community.

Roy and Ada had two children, James L. Fowler and Carolyn Fowler Hall. Roy
and Ada farmed and ranched north of Elk City in the Sandstone and
Grandview Communities.

Roy was a member of the Beckham County Farmer's Co-Op and assisted the
U.S. Government Soil Conservation in building the "Sandstone Watershed".

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and sister.

Survivors include his wife Margie, one son James L. Fowler and wife,
Beverly of Guymon, Oklahoma; one daughter, Carolyn F. Hall, of Elk City;
his twin brother, Clarence R. Fowler and wife, Mary, of Elk City; four
grandchildren; four foster grandchildren; two great grandchildren; seven
foster great grandchildren; four stepdaughters; one stepson; 24 step
grandchildren; 40 step great grandchildren; one step great great
grandchild; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Roy J. Fowler Memorial Fund, C/O
Bank of Western Oklahoma, P.O. Box 507, Elk City, Oklahoma 73648.
