Elmerine Stewart Burnam was born August 27, 1914 in Meridian, Oklahoma to Hattie and Charles Stewart. She passed away December 31, 2003 in the Bell Avenue Nursing Center, Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 4 days.

Elmerine grew up in the Meridian community, northwest of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, where she attended school.

In 1934, she was married to Oral W. Burnam at Cheyenne, Oklahoma and they lived in Elk City.

She worked as a LVN at the hospital in Wheeler, Texas and later in Amarillo, Texas. After her retirement, she returned to Elk City in 1992 to make her home.

She was a member of Second and Adams Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant; one son, Terry Surnam; one brother and three sisters.

Services will be held Friday, January 2, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel, officiated by Tom Harguess.

Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.

Survivors include four daughters, Sue Brookshier of Elk City, Oklahoma; Linda Tibbits and husband, Tommy of Allen, South Dakota; Cheryl McGlaun and husband, Tommy of Amarillo, Texas; Pam Campbell of Elk City, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two sisters Mozelle France of Amarillo, Texas; Naomi York of College Station, Texas; one brother Neal Stewart and wife, Shirley of College Station, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
