Geneva Ruth Bayless Baxter

Funeral services for Geneva Bayless Baxter were conducted Friday, August 31, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Duck officiating. Interment followed in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.

Geneva Ruth Baxter was born May 3, 1920 at Spearman, Texas to Tom and Ruby Hughes Bayless and passed away Monday August 27, 2001 at the age of 81. Geneva attended Durham High School before her marriage to Fred Baxter on April 18, 1937 at Durham. They lived in Durham before moving to Elk City in 1944 and then in 1950 moved to Cheyenne where they owned and operated the Baxter Propane Company and the Ford Agency. In 1960, they purchased the Western Motel in Elk City and operated until 1971 when they moved to Huntsville, AL. They returned to Elk City in 1985 where she has lived since. Mr. Baxter preceded her in death on February 7, 1995. Geneva was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. Besides her husband Geneva was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Cecil Bayless and Roy Bayless.

Survivors include her daughter; Janell Gause and her husband Raymond of Arab, AL, two grandchildren, Sherry Tice and her husband Keith of Birmingham, AL and Randall Gause and his wife Wendy of Tulsa, 4 great grandchildren, Kyle Tice, Ryan Tice, Rhett Gause and Trey Gause, 3 sisters, Glena Mae Harrison of Phoenix, AZ, Dorothy Bales of Norman, OK, Joan Martin of Elk City and 2 sisters-in -law, Lorene Bayless of Oklahoma City and Dorothy Bayless of Glendale, AZ.
