R H "Pete" Harkins was born September 2, 1930 in Erick, Oklahoma to Ruby Cleo Mae (Bullard) and R. E. Harkins. He passed away October 27, 2015 at Erick, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 25 days.

Pete grew up in Erick and attended grade school at Shiloh and later Dabney schools. He lived with G. C. and Margie Harkins during his childhood and as a young man began going on wheat harvest. Pete returned to Erick, Oklahoma where he met and married Nellie Fern (Thomas) Harkins in Erick, Oklahoma on May 17, 1951. After their marriage, they moved to various towns in Oklahoma and Texas following Pete's work in selling automotive parts.
He later moved to Amarillo, Texas where he met and was eventually married to Sylvia Faye (Keith) Harkins on December 9, 1968. They made their home in Amarillo and spent a few years in eastern Oklahoma. After Sylvia's death, Pete moved back to Erick to be closer to his children and family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, traveling and working with his church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, 2 sisters, Georgia Sue Forgay, Peggy Merle Harkins, 1 brother, Charles Edward Harkins and 1 grandson, Derek Lane Harkins.

He is survived by his 5 children, Mona Davis and husband, Ricky, Erick, OK, Donita Harkins, Erick, OK, Tom Harkins and wife, Diana, Erick, OK, Susan Husband and husband, Tommy, Erick, OK and Robert Harkins and wife, Lisa, Erick, OK; 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; his step children, Beverly Edwards, Amarillo, TX, Gail Clevenger, Oklahoma City, OK, Gwen Cranford and husband, Steve, Amarillo, TX and Leslie Hedger, Amarillo, TX; 7 step grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home.

Services will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm at The Country Chapel officiated by Ben North. Burial will be at Erick Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home.
