Alfus Milton Coffey

Alfus Milton Coffey was born June 18, 1912 in the Sweetwater community and died September 6, 1991 in Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 19 days.

Alfus, the son of Joe Lee and Ora Avaline Coffey married Inez Sparks, January 17, 1931 and lived in the Sweetwater community until 1949 when they moved to Erick.

He worked for the railroad and the modern Farm and Home Supply before working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1977.

He had been a member of the Sweetwater Assembly of God church since 1938.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Inez of the home; one son Ronnie and his wife Levota of Pryor, Oklahoma; one brother Roy Thomas of Sayre; four sisters, Carabelle Thompson of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Frances Downs of Erick; Edit Sanders of Satanta, Kansas; and Beatrice Boyd of Erick; three granddaughters, Glenda and husband Ricky Walden of Chelsea, Oklahoma; Brenda and husband Ronnie Foshee of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Ronna Kay and husband David Hilderbrand of Claremore, Oklahoma; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed in the church and community by all who loved him.

Services were held Sunday, September 8, 1991 at 2:30 in the Erick Assembly of God church with Rev. Isaac Snow officiating. Singing by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Widener of Cheyenne and Pauline Pennington of Reydon, Oklahoma. Peggy Patton was pianist.

Casket bearers were Emmit Tipton, Larry Conway, Jimmy Downs, Joe Patten, Harley Sweatengen and Joe Mong.

Interment was in the Erick cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home.
