Sidney Lee (Greenway) Danner

Sidney Lee Greenway (Danner) was the oldest child of Susie Bell Wells and Sidney Ernest Greenway, born April 22, 1916, at Frederick, Oklahoma. When she was 8 years old in the Spring of 1924, she walked from Frederick to Sayre behind a Model T, leading a milk cow, together with her parents and siblings. On arrival as Sayre, her family pitched a tent on North First Street where they continued living until her youngest sister was born in August. She attended Sayre Public Schools until the 11th grade when she quit school to help earn a living for her family cleaning houses.

She met and married L.D. Danner in November, 1937, and they made their home in Roswell, NM, for about two years until they returned to Sayre to make their permanent home for the rest of their married life. During their marriage she assisted him a the packing plant, more recently know as Butcher Boy Packing, drove a truck to and from sale barns in Western Oklahoma and Oklahoma City, hauling cattle. She ran the first Daylight Donut Shop in Sayre on West main in the early 60's, drove the taxi, ran the bus station, cooked at the nursing home on North 4th, cooked at the Sayre School cafeteria, worked at a laundry on 6th Street. She has been a faithful member of the Church of Christ at 5th and Locust since her early childhood. Sidney suffered a broken hip in December 2013 and was not able to recover from the injury to the extent she could walk, but on November 16 at the age of 98 years, 6 months and 20 days, early in the morning, she took flight and found her new wings.

Sidney is preceded in death by her husband, L. D. Danner, her parents; her siblings, D.V. Greenway, Ida Bell Stimmel, Geraldine Dunn, infant brother, S.E. Greenway, Jr., as well has her sister-in-law, Jean Greenway, brothers-in-law, Lloyd Stimmel and Marvie Dunn; her son-in-law, John Hanrahan.
 

She has five surviving children: Lea Juan Teakell and husband, Wayne Teakell, Iris Hanrahan, Teenye Hewitt and husband, Ron Hewitt, Lois Johnson and husband, Ron Johnson. She is also survived by 11 grand children; 28 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special caretakers Sharon Hill and Pam Essary and a host of other relatives and friends.
