(permission granted)

Jackie Ray "Jack" McKennon was born July 31, 1943 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Mary Edith and Jack Dennis McKennon. He passed away August 2, 2017 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years and 1 day.

Jack grew up in Sayre and always spoke highly of the days of his youth. He established many lifelong friendships there in Sayre which served him well all the days of his life. He had a very deep connection with all of his family and seemed to be the corner post of strength everyone leaned on in hard times. Everyone spoke of him knew him as Jack, but to those who were closest to him, he was always known for the name his mother called him, “Jackie Ray.” After graduation Jack attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford and later worked for Kellwood Manufacturing in Clinton, Oklahoma where he met his wife Paula Teurman and their 2 children were born. It’s also where he established a friendship with his buddy J.P. Brehm which would last over the next 50 years. After a short time working in the textile industry in Memphis, Tennessee, Jack finally landed in Oklahoma City, working as a Sprinkler fitter for Cosgrove Fire Suppression which later became Smith Fire Suppression. He always seemed to be the ring leader as he brought his friends J.P., Dean Hensley, and Hart Anderson with him into the trade. Jack quickly became a foreman and worked in the trade as a journeyman Pipefitter for 26 years. He retired from the industry after moving his family back to Sayre where he eventually became the City Manager of the City of Sayre. Jack was instrumental as a City Manager in bringing several new businesses to Sayre in his time as a manager including the CCA Prison Facility, and the Flying J Truck stop. Jack was an avid sports follower, and was a huge OU fan. He loved football and basketball and never missed one game his children played in during their years in high school. He was married to Stella Ross at Sayre, OK on November 15, 1997. They established their home in Sayre and after he retired as City Manager, Jack owned a backhoe service and a taxi service for several years. He was known to give individuals rides that had been down on their luck without charging them a fare and once hauled a couple and their belongings all the way to Arizona because they had fallen on hard times. Jack had a dog, in the last 12 years of his life, named Boxer. She was his best buddy and always got up early with him to eat a piece of toast when he had coffee. He had a big heart and was well known in the community to many in town for his loud voice and boisterous laugh. If someone described something ornery he had done they always said “oh that’s just him being Jack.”

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Stella, of the home; 2 children, Shana McKennon of Sayre, OK and Jack Todd McKennon of Liberty, MO; 2 stepchildren, Lonnie Heine of Sayre, OK, Katina Nichols of Willlow, OK; 5 grandchildren, Daniel McKennon, Drake McKennon, Jonah McKennon, Samuel McKennon and John McKennon; 4 step grandchildren, Madison Nichols, Qwentin Nichols, Britany Heine and Brandon Heine; a special cousin, Wanda Crosby of Sayre, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
