IVAN WESLEY THORNBURGH
The funeral for Ivan Wesley Thornburgh, 82, of Ponca City, OK., was July 15, 2005 at Community Christian Church. The Rev. Marilyn Merle officiated. A private family burial was held at Karoma Cemetery, Goltry, OK. Arrangements were by Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City, OK.
He was born July 26, 1922, in Goltry, OK. to Ivan Wesley Thornburgh, Sr. and Wilma Ackley and died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 in Ponca City, OK.
He grew up in Goltry and Nash where he attended school. He entered the Navy and served in the South Pacific as a carpenter's mate and ship gunner in World War II. He married Clara Margaret Chapman May 10, 1947 in Enid, OK. Together they farmed at Jet, Goltry and Helena, OK. before building a home in Enid, OK. in 1955. They moved to Ponca City, OK. in 1961, working for Henson's Carpet and later for Irene's Interiors in laminate installation and design. Before his retirement he owned his own carpentry business.
He was a long-time member of Community Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was an active sponsor for the youth group.
Surviving are his wife, Clara, of the home; one son, Johnny Ivan Thornburgh of Tonkawa, OK.; two daughters, Rita Joyce Thornburgh of Ponca City, OK. and Wilma Louise Long of Okla. City, OK.; three step-sons, Robert E. Denson, Ponca City, OK., Melvin E. Denson, Peyton, CO., and Mickey E. Denson of Hazen, Ark.; one brother, Lavern Thornburgh, Enid, OK.; six sisters; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother; one daughter; and two grandchildren.

Clara Margaret Thornburgh, a long time resident of the Ranch Drive Community of Ponca City, entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, May 23, 2016.

Graveside rites are 10 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Karoma Cemetery in Goltry. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Community Christian Church in Ponca City with the Rev. Susan Payne officiating.

Clara, the eighth child of Avery Henry Chapman and Emma Rebecca Dunn, was born on Jan. 19, 1923, near Leedey in Roger Mills County.

On April 7, 1939, she married Troy Lester Denson in Enid. During their marriage, they became the parents of Robert, Melvin, Mickey, and Glenda Kay Denson.

On May 10, 1947, Clara married Ivan Wesley Thornburgh in Enid. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Kansas and Oklahoma, as he worked on many grain elevators.

Later they moved to a farm near Jet. After building a new home in Enid in the middle of the 1950s, they moved to Ponca City in 1961, where they resided for the rest of their lives.

Clara worked at home caring for their three children, Wilma, Rita, and Johnny Thornburgh while Ivan worked as a carpenter.

Clara is survived by children Robert Denson and his wife, Paula, of Oklahoma City; Melvin Denson and his wife, Anita , of Peyton, Colo.; Mickey Denson of Carlisle, Ark.; Wilma Thornburgh Long and her husband, Don ,of Oklahoma City; and Johnny Thornburgh and his wife, Ann, of Tonkawa.

Mrs. Thornburgh is also survived by grandchildren: Kelly Denson Goebel and her husband, Tony; Glenda Denson Browning; Debbie Denson Tatum; Kim Denson, Melvin Denson, Jr. and his wife, Leah; and Kenneth Denson and his wife, Loraine, all of Colo.; Elizabeth Long Logan and her husband, Richmond, of Oklahoma City; Brooke Long of Keller, Texas; Tamara Thomas-Cichon of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; Marty Thomas of Saratoga, Wyo.

Mrs. Thornburgh is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 11 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Thornburgh was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Thornburgh; daughter, Glenda Kay Denson; daughter, Rita Thornburgh; and grandchildren, Kathryn Elaine Denson and Kent Forest Long.

Memorial contributions may be given to Community Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The family will be at her home on Thursday to greet visitors.
