October 28, 1876 - December 25, 1956

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Methodist Church at Carmen for Mrs. Irene Baker Duel, 80. Rev. Marion McGuire officiated and burial was in the Eagle Chief Cemetery.

Mrs. Duel died December 20 at 8:45 PM at their farm home near Carmen after an illness of three years. She was born October 28, 1876 at Galatin, Missouri. Mrs. Duel was a member of the Carmen Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include her husband, George Alvin Duel of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Edith DeFever, Cherokee; Mrs. Winnie Mercer, Alva; Mrs. Myrtle Barrows, Mrs. Juana Church and Mrs. Janice Brown, all of Carmen; four sons, Ralph of Marshall; Elmer, Grove, Kansas; Wayne, Carmen and Dean of California; 30 grandchildren and 34 great – grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Carmen Methodist Church for George A. Duel, 88, who died Tuesday at the Masonic hospital after a short illness. Rev. W. E. West will officiate and burial will be in the Eagle Chief Cemetery under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary.

George Alvin Duel, son of George and Amy Duel, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, August 3, 1870. He came to Oklahoma in 1893 at the opening of the Cherokee Strip and homesteaded Southwest of Carmen. He lived on a farm until he moved to town a year ago.

Duel was a member of the Methodist Church. He had been a member of the I00F and Masonic lodges for over 50 years and served as Secretary of the I00F Lodge for over 30 years. He was the last of the charter members of the Carmen Eastern Star chapter, and was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Consistory.

He was preceded in death by his wife December 25, 1956, and a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Barrows in October, 1957.

Survivors are daughters, Edith DeFever, Cherokee; Winnie Mercer, Alva; Juana Church and Janice Brown, Carmen; sons, Elmer, Wichita, Kansas; Wayne, Carmen; Ralph, Marshall; Dean, Van Nuys, California; 30 grandchildren, 37 great – grandchildren, two great – great – grandchildren.
