Graveside services for Betty Joe Weber were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Eagle Chief Cemetery, Carmen. Arrangements are under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary, LLC, Carmen.
Betty Joe, daughter of the late Charles William and Katie Estella (Faulkenburg) Stewart, was born January 26, 1935, on the family farmstead west of Carmen, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family December 3, 2024, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 8 days.
Betty Joe grew up on the family farmstead with her seven siblings. In 1952, she graduated Carmen High School and then went to Northwestern Oklahoma State College and obtained her Bachelors Degree. She began her first teaching job in Blackwell before she had her degree because of the teacher shortage. She later received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education and Physical Education.
In 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles Jacob Weber. They had one child together, Jerri Joe. She taught at Allen Elementary in Wichita for 38 years before retiring back to the farm in Carmen. She loved farming and ranching, teaching her grandkids to read and write, any kind of sports, and playing pitch with her family. Betty Joe also loved playing bridge, but her daughter, Jerri Joe, could never learn the game.
Besides her parents, Charles and Katie, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Stewart, Edward "Tuffy" Stewart, Bill Stewart, and Jerry Stewart; two sisters, Virginia Roy and Mary Ellen Karns; and one grandson-in-law, Kevin Irwin.
Betty Joe is survived by her daughter, Jerri Joe Smith and husband, Paul, of Carmen; her sister, Barbara Moore of Oakley, Kansas; three grandchildren, Charles Woods and wife, Erica, of Carmen, John Russell Fuqua and wife, Nicole, of Waynoka, and Katie Joe Irwin of Carmen; nine great grandchildren, Auburn and Merritt Woods, Colten, Jace, and Jorden Fuqua, Kassie and Jake Irwin, Josh Irwin, and Paige Dillard and husband, Tony; other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made through the mortuary to the After 55 Club or the Carmen Fire and Rescue.
