Monroe A. Thompson
The funeral for Monroe A. Thompson, 93, of McWillie, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Plains Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Elsie Koehn will officiate. Burial will be in Aline Star Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Casket will be open before the service at the church.
He was born Sept. 26, 1913, on the family farm two miles west of Helena to Van and Grace Dupus Thompson and died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Enid.
He attended school in McWillie and graduated from Aline High School in 1931. He married Ruth Lawrence July 28, 1933. He was active in Lions Club and Boy Scouts, earning the Silver Beaver award in 1959 and the Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow in 1965. He spent his whole life in the Helena- Aline area. He was a farmer and stockman and an Alfalfa County commissioner for many years. He was a member of Pleasant Plains Church of the Brethren and served the church in many capacities.
Surviving are one son, Alfred Thompson of Aline; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Boy Scouts of America.
