Roxie (McDowell) Elle
Roxie was born August 23,1900 in Tolar, Texas to George and Davie West. She died Thursday, January 25,1996 at the Kingfisher Hospital after a very brief illness. She was 95 years, 5 months, and 2 days of age.
She attended school first in Tolar, Texas, and later in Alva, Oklahoma. The family later moved to Aline, Oklahoma.
On August 2,1922, Roxie married Frank McDowell in Enid, Oklahoma. He died August 16,1934. They made their home in Aline but followed the fruit harvest all over the United States.
Later she married Dan Elle in October, 1962. His death occurred February 22,1979. They enjoyed a very good life and had traveled extensively.
After her husband’s death, Roxie moved back in the home with her sister, Jessie. Together they enjoyed their church meetings, and especially the quilting. Roxie’s membership was with the Aline United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxillary.
Because of her failing health she went to live with a great niece at Kingfisher in 1990.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred West.
She is survived by her sister, Jessie McDowell, of Aline, Oklahoma; one nephew, Warren McDowell of Cleo Springs; one niece, Naomi Crook of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one step-daughter, Edith Elle of Carmen, many great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services at the United Methodist Church in Aline Oklahoma Tuesday January 30,1996 with Reverend Diana Northcutt officiating. Concluding Service at the Aline Star Cemetery, east of Aline, Oklahoma. Arrangements entrusted to Wentworth Mortuary in Carmen Oklahoma.
