Jack Daniel Elkins, Sr.
A graveside service for Jack Daniel Elkins Sr., 82, will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Aline Star Cemetery, east of Aline. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena.
He was born Feb. 10, 1925, on a farm near Aline to Orval Clay and Olive Louessa Daniel Elkins and died Dec. 11, 2006, in Emporia, Kan.
He attended Aline Public Schools, graduating in 1942. He enlisted in the Navy Seabee Division in August 1943 and went to boot camp at Camp Peary, Va. He then transferred to a camp in Rhode Island, where he was assigned to the 18th Special Battalion. He deployed to Hawaii and was there from April 1944 to September 1944. He also served in the Philippines and Pelilu Islands. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.
He married Clara Louise Watson Oct. 5, 1943, in Rockville, Md. Following his discharge, he managed Derby Bowl in Derby, Kan., for several years and worked for Truck Parts and Equipment Co. in Wichita, Kan. They moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1973. He retired from Pizza Hut, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area in 1991. After his retirement, they moved to Lake Tenkiller in August 1991. In 1997, they moved to Emporia, Kan. He was a member of United Methodist Church of Aline, American Legion Ball-McColm Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7957, both of Emporia.
Surviving are his wife, Clara of Emporia; two sons, Jack D. Elkins Jr. of Hurst, Texas, and Bradley Dean Elkins of Emporia; one daughter, Karlene Landowski of Freeport, Ill.; one brother, Kenneth Elkins of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and twin great-grandsons.
