Aline Star Cemetery


Carmen – The funeral service for Mrs. Ruth Brown, 85, will be 10:30 AM Monday, September 20, 1999 in the Carmen Christian Church with the Rev. Kirk Board officiating. Burial will follow in the Aline Star Cemetery east of Aline, Oklahoma,. Arrangements are by Wentworth Mortuary of Carmen.

She was born August 29, 1914 at Aline, Oklahoma to Fay and Flossie Cleveland Wilt and died Thursday, September 16, 1999 at Beadles Nursing Home in Alva after a lengthy illness.

Ruth grew up and attended school in Aline graduating with the class of 1932. On August 5, 1932 she married Wilford Brown at Alva. They made their home on a farm west of Aline, and later on a farm southwest of Carmen where they farmed and raised cattle. They retired and moved into Carmen in 1976. They were members of the Carmen Christian Church where Ruth was a Sunday School Teacher many years. She enjoyed all the church activities and spent hours quilting with the ladies.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and made many craft items and afghans. She and her husband, Wilford, spent hours in our park making and caring for the beautiful flowerbeds. When their health failed and they were no longer able to live in their own they moved to the Nursing Home. Wilford died February 14, 1998. In addition to her husband and her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by an infant son.

Her survivors include two daughters and their husbands; Betty Kay and Duane Shryock of Atlanta, Georgia and Ronda and Charles Stewart of Aline. One son and his wife Freddie and Marilyn Brown of Alva. One sister Mary Seltman of Koma, Kansas. One brother, Jack Wilt and wife, Gloria, of Duluth Minnesota. Five grandchildren; Kathy Davis, Freedom, Oklahoma; Pamela Brennen, James Shryock of Woodstock, Georgia; Gary Brown of Alva, Oklahoma. Steven Stewart of Aline, Oklahoma. Six great-grandchildren; Ashley Brown, Blake Brown, Amanda Brennen, Andrea Davis, Christopher Davis, Colby Stewart. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Carmen Park or to the Carmen Christian Church. Wentworth Mortuary will act as custodian of the funds.
