Garlan McMurtrey

Garlan McMurtrey son of Jess Martin and Lillie Ock (Sharp) McMurtrey was born December 25, 1942 in Stilwell, OK and departed this life on August 15, 2015 in Springdale, AR at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Garlan was drafted and served his country proudly in the United States Army in the heavy artillery unit during Vietnam. He married the love of his life Sharon Maggard on September 15, 1965 and to this union 3 children were born; Danny, Wesley and Beth. He worked for over 25 years at Baldor Electric as a motor analyst. After retirement he loved to travel to the mountains especially Teton and Yellowstone. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, woodwork and spending time with his family. He attended Trinity Church in Siloam Spring, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess McMurtrey and Lillie Cook, siblings; Mary French, Dona Fay Morton, AJ McMurtrey, in laws; Ed and Eva Mae Maggard, nephews; Carl Wayne McMurtrey, Jackie Morton, Scott Goldman and niece; Michelle Cox.

Garlan is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife of nearly 50 years; Sharon McMurtrey of the home, 3 children; Danny McMurtrey and wife DeLana of Westville, OK, Wesley McMurtrey and wife Mendy of Wagoner, OK, Beth Price and husband Kurt of Westville, OK, grandchildren; Gavin White and Kyle McMurtrey of Wagoner, OK, Isaac, Grace and Jude Price of Westville, OK. Brothers; Herman"Jack" McMurtrey of Welling, OK, L.J. McMurtrey and wife Barbara of Keys, Ok, sister; Irene Cornell of Vian, OK, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends also survive him.

Funeral services were held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, OK with Pastor Tom Blackwell, Pastor David Isaacs, Pastor Keith Graham and Pastor Mike Whorton officiating. Interment followed at Westville City Cemetery.
