David Paul Fishinghawk was born on September 11, 1961, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Paul and Helen (Sweet) Fishinghawk. He departed this life on Saturday, September 16, 2017, in Pryor, OK.

David graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1979 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Safety. David had worked as a safety coordinator at Jer-Co in Peggs, OK. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Locust Grove.

On June 1, 2013, David and Michele Doughty were united in marriage. David loved golf, the OU Sooners, fishing, and the Andy Griffith Show. His passion was the martial arts, both teaching and competing. He was a member of numerous martial arts organizations and had been the recipient of too many honors to name. David was a Grand Master that held black belts in Tae Kwon Do, American Kenpo, Lima Lama, Hawaiian Kyosho Ryu, Jujitsu and American Karate.

He spent over 35 years teaching students ranging from age 4 to 62 the arts of Tae Kwon Do, American Kenpo, and weaponry. David won a gold,a silver and 2 bronze medals at the 2003 Martial Arts Goodwill Games in Cancun. He won 9 Native American World titles between 2002 and 2003. David was rated in the top 5 in the world in 1998-1999 with the National Black Belt League. His personal favorite achievement was competing at 98 different karate tournaments in 5 different states between 1980 and 1984. He loved to share with his students that it was at that 99th tournament he finally won a trophy.

David is survived by his wife: Michele of the home; 4 children: Madison Fishinghawk of Broken Arrow, OK, Stephanie Duncan of Pryor, OK, Amber Mathis and husband Dustin of Pryor, OK and Steven Duncan of Pryor, OK; 2 sisters: Rhonda Stanely and husband David of Tahlequah, OK, and Paula Barton and husband Russell of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren and many more family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louie and Lodema Sweet and Dora and Sequoyah Fourkiller; his parents, Paul and Helen Fishinghawk, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, and 2 granddaughters.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Locust Grove, OK and interment was at the Westville Cemetery in Westville, OK.
