Charles Fred Roberts
July 16, 1943-March 19, 2008
Charles Fred Roberts,the son of Carl Fred and Ernestine (Wright) Roberts, was born July 16, 1943 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma and departed this life on March 19, 2008 in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 2 days.
He married the love of his life, Cindy Newcomb, on August 24, 1968 and together they raised 4 children; Renee, Steven, Ruth and Lorie.
Charles retired from the Stilwell Police Department after working fifteen years as Head Dispatcher. Charles had a deep love for his family and his grandchildren. Vacations always included trips with his family to the Texas Motor Speedway for Nascar Racing. His favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt, and in recent years he was an avid supporter for Dale Jr. Charles developed a love for older cars when he was young and following that passion later in life he enjoyed rebuilding and restoring them. One could see his work on "Cruise Nights" in Stilwell.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War earning many medals and commendations such as the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge and 2 Purple Hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law; Bertie Roberts.
He is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife; Cindy Roberts of the home in Stilwell, OK, 1 son; Steven Roberts and wife Kim, 3 daughters; Renee Sherrill and husband Joel of Park hill, OK, Ruth Swain and husband Mike of Prairie Grove, AR, and Lorie Trentham and husband Ronnie of Stilwell, OK, 8 grandchildren; Kyla and Kelsey Trentham, Karley and Kristen Roberts, Shaquille Duncan, Kayla Grimes all of Stilwell, OK, Jenna Swain of Prairie Grove, AR, and Jerron Sherrill of Parkhill, OK.
One sister; Sue White and husband Larry of Bixby, OK, 1 brother; George Roberts and wife Denice of Kansas, OK. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive him.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the Stilwell Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Dick Goad, Rev. Joe Carmean and Pastor Terry Tatum officiating.
Interment followed in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
