Dewey Jones

Dewey Jones son of Leonard and Mary Juanita (Kester) Jones was born April 2, 1943 in Stilwell, OK and departed this life to be with the Lord on June 16, 2007 in Ft. Smith, AR at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 14 days.

He married Joann Roberts on December 26, 1964 and to this marriage 3 children were born; Joe Ella, Penny and Jim.
He enjoyed the duties that followed his role as a very loving Husband, Dad and Papa to his family.
Dewey was an ordained preacher of the gospel for over 35 years. He was instrumental in starting many missions that were later organized into Godly churches as well as Pastor of several area churches. At the time of his passing, he was Pastor of Bell Baptist Church.
Dewey served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was member of the Blue Dragons that served in Bravo Company, 4th Brigade, 73rd Infantry Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He also received the National Defense Service Medal.
Dewey enjoyed the outdoors. He was a great hunter and fisherman. Some of his favorite things to do were to go trout fishing at Roaring River as well as going on a good coon hunt with Old Rusty his faithful walker coon dog. He also like to go turkey hunting with his buddies, his grandkids and his wife Joann.
Dewey was employed with the United States Postal Service in Stilwell for 31 years, where he delivered mail on the same route until his retirement.
Dewey attended Bell Elementary, Stilwell High School and Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science.
Dewey also served his community as "Bell 13" at the Bell Fire Dept., where he was a charter member.

Dewey was preceded in death by his Parents; Leonard and Juanita Jones, Granddaughter; Heather Edwards, Grandson; Kaleb Hopkins, Sister-in-law; Peggy Jones and Brother-in-law; Jimmy Roberts.

He is survived by a very loving family that includes his wife of over 42 years; Joann Jones of the home in Stilwell, OK, 2 daughters; Jo Ella of Arkoma, OK, Penny Hopkins and husband Crocky of Stilwell, OK, 1 son; Jim Lee Jones and wife Amanda of Stilwell, OK, Son-in-law; Brian Edwards of Muldrow, OK, 9 grandchildren, brothers; Vonnie Jones and wife Shirley, Herman Jones, Morris Dean Jones and wife Kaye all of Stilwell, OK. Mother and Father-in-law; W.R. and Ellen Roberts of Stilwell, OK, 2 brother-in-laws; Larry Roberts and wife Teresa of Siloam Springs, AR, and Garry Roberts and wife Sally of Tahlequah, OK. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive him.

He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ricky Kirk, Bro. Mike Newberry and Bro. Floyd Kester Jr. officiating.
 

Interment followed in the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
