Mary Hawkins daughter of James K. Polk Hines and Mary Rebecca "Bosse" Hines was born on February 21, 1919 in Saint Vrain, New Mexico and departed this life early Thursday morning January 24, 2008 in Tahlequah, OK at the age of 88 years.
Mary was the youngest of 3 daughters. She married her soul mate Robert Eugene Hawkins on June 8, 1936 in Panhandle, TX. During their marriage they were blessed with 5 children, Roy Leon, James Lee, Inetta, Robert Hines and Richard Eugene.

When she worked outside of the home, she worked at the Stilwell Flower Shop and then as a Coordinator for the Adair County Senior Access Services. Finally she worked as a Site Manager for the Nutrition Ourreach for Cookson Hills Outreach.
She was President of the American Legion Auxillary, Secretary for the Adair County Bicentennial and the Secretary for the Rose Garden Club.
She loved to volunteer her time to the elderly and as a classroom grandparent. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Stilwell. She greatly enjoyed family gatherings and liked to be remembered most by her family for her quilting, stories, poems, garding and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 46 years, 1 sister; Anabelle Winsted, 2 son; Roy and Jim Hawkins.
She is survived by a loving family that includes, 1 sister; Ethel Laverne Bush, 1 daughter; Inetta Soontay and husband Robert, 2 sons; Rob Hawkins and partner Bobbie Wilson and Rick Hawkins, 18 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. Many other family members and friends also survive her.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Cherokee and Cherokee County Nursing Center for their loving care and compassion.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 28, 2008 in the Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel, with Jerry Henson officiating.
Interment followed in the Stilwell City Cemetery, under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
