William Ira DuVall was born May 12, 1924 in Hattieville, Arkansas to parents: William Arthur DuVall and Maggie (Ferrell) DuVall. He passed on to be with our Lord on June 2, 2011 at the age of 87 years and 21 days.
During his 87 years, William honorably served his country, family and community. First for the U.S. Navy from November 1943 to March 1946. Bill served as an aircraft painter in a Naval Aviation Unit in Guadalcanal during the Pacific Campaign of WORLD War II. He later joined the U.S. Army in November 1948 until August 1952. During which he spent time at the Eniwetok Atomic Bomb Testing site as a supply Sergeant.
On November 25, 1950, William married Gladys Dornbrack in Stilwell, Oklahoma. He and his wife made a home in Stilwell and raised three children during their sixty years together. Bill retired as Asst. Superintendent of the Stilwell Utility Department after 31 years of employment. He also retired from the Stilwell Fire Department after 20 years of service and serving as Chief in the mid 1970’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Maggie DuVall, in-laws: Adolph and Ora Ella Dornbrack, brother: Joe DuVall, sisters: Opal Reynolds, Ruby Chapman, brothers-in-law: William Hodges, Jesse Reynolds, Gerald Chuculate, Ted Qualls, Charles Dornbrack, Pete Dornbrack, Robert Dornbrack, sisters-in-law: Juna DuVall, Rene Chuculate, Pat Dornbrack, Patsy Dornbrack and grandson: Ryan Bowd.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years: Gladys DuVall of the home, sons: James DuVall and wife Juanita of Stilwell, Robert DuVall and wife Mary Gail of Piedmont, OK, daughter: Kathy Hooper and husband Danny of Stilwell, sisters: Pauline Hodges of Illinois, Ruthie Mauney and husband Kenneth of Booneville, MS, brother: Othel DuVall of Tuckerman, AR, brother-in-law: Vell Chapman of Corinth, MS, sisters-in-law: Syble DuVall of Morrilton, AR, Joyce Qualls and Oleta Dornbrack of Stilwell, grandchildren: Jerry Hardbarger and wife Brittany of Stilwell, Maisie Duncan and husband Stuart, Linzy Duvall, all of OKC, step grandchildren: Chris Hooper of West Siloam Springs, OK, Billy Hooper and wife Treva of Stilwell, Mashell Haddock and husband David of Tahlequah, OK, great grandchildren: Kyson and Harmony Hardbarger of Stilwell, Makenzie Bowd, Emma and Aiden Duncan of OKC, Chris and Gabe Hooper of Watts, OK, Taylor Hooper of Siloam Springs, AR and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Bro. Don Varble officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery.
