Betty Jean Briggs

Betty Jean Briggs, daughter of Jim Bateman and Ollie “Tisher” Bateman, was born on February 14, 1925 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and passed from this life on March 30, 2011 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 16 days.
She married J.D. on February 10, 1942 and the Lord granted them over 69 years together on this earth. Betty was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. J.D. and Betty were owners of Briggs IGA for many years. Betty was a pillar of the Stilwell Community. She touched many lives through her church and her work at the store. Betty was a warm, giving person. She will be remembered and loved by all who were blessed to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jim and Ollie Bateman, brothers: Bill, Wayne, Jay and Homer Bateman and Linnie Fields.
Betty is survived by a loving family that includes her husband: J.D. Briggs of the home in Stilwell, OK, Raymond Briggs and wife Janet of Tulsa, OK, grandsons: Travis Briggs and wife Laura of Dallas, TX, Connor Briggs of Tulsa, Clint Briggs and wife Stephanie of Tulsa, great grandchildren: Lucas, Olivia and Helena Briggs of Dallas, TX, Caroline and Baron Briggs of Tulsa, siblings: Bob Bateman of Stilwell, Jack Bateman of Ft. Smith, AR, Leta Mae Allred of Dutch Mills, AR. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Bro. Hubert Sponsler officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

John Dewitt “J.D.” Briggs, son of John Briggs and Lucy “Graham” Briggs, was born on June 14, 1923 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and passed from this life on April 6, 2011 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 22 days.
J.D. married Betty Bateman on February 10, 1942 and they were blessed with over 69 years together. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. J.D. and Betty were owners of Briggs IGA for many years. He was well known and liked in the Stilwell Community. He opened his home to anyone in need and touched many lives. J.D. will be remembered for his hard work, generosity and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lucy Briggs, wife: Betty Briggs and sister: Iola Briggs.
J.D. is survived by a loving family that includes his son: Raymond Briggs and wife Janet of Tulsa, OK, grandsons: Travis Briggs and wife Laura of Dallas, TX, Connor Briggs of Tulsa, Clint Briggs and wife Stephanie of Tulsa, great grandchildren: Lucas, Olivia and Helena Briggs of Dallas, TX, Caroline and Baron Briggs of Tulsa, nephew: Cecil Parker and wife Joyce of Wales, WI. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April8, 2011 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel with Bro. Max Ford officiating. Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
