Charles Bates
January 8, 1917-July 1, 2008
Funeral services for Charles Bates, age 91, formerly of Stilwell, were held 10:00 a.m. Sturday, July 5, 2008, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Vance Eubanks officiating.
Interment followed at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
Charles Howard Bates was born January 8, 1917, in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Frank Bates and Mae Katie (Cooper) Bates.
He passed from this life on July 1, 2008, at his home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma at 91 years of age.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was the owner of State Beauty Supply until his retirement. Charles was a member of the First Christian Church in Tahlequah. He enjoyed working in his garden and mowing on his John Deere tractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mae Bates, his wife, Edith Bates, on November 9, 2005, and four brothers, John, Harold, Lloyd and Wayne Bates.
His surviving family includes his companion; Verla Pounds, of the home, one son; Charles Bates, Jr. and wife, Pat, of Sapulpa, OK., two sisters; Peggy Hope and husband, Jim, of Sallisaw, Betty Michaels and husband, Gene, of Castaic, CA., and three grandchildren; Phil Bates and wife, Monique, of Louisiana, Paul Bates, of Tulsa, OK., Susan Brooks and husband, Dave, of Blackfoot, ID., and one great grandson, Zachery Bates, of Tulsa, OK.
