Thomas Josiah Means, 88-year-old retired farmer, died Saturday, June 29, 1991 at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell. Means was born September 15, 1902 in Eldon, Missouri to James Lewis Means and Winna Shelton Means.

He came to Stilwell in 1917 and lived in the Spade Mountain Community the rest of his life. He was of the Holiness faith and attended church regularly until he became disabled.

He was married to Cora Deason on December 31, 1926. They celebrated their 64 Wedding Anniversary this past December.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Samuel Preston; one sister, Delia Johnson; two grandsons, Tommy and Bryce Means; one granddaughter, Gwen Means.

Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Cora Means of the home; two daughters, Allene Watkins, Stilwell, and Bethel Woods, Westville; three sons, Carthel, Willie, and Jerry Means, all of Stilwell; five sisters, Ada Brannon, Sand Springs, Bessie King, Cassville, Missouri, Mary Padgett, Sallisaw, Sadie Helwick, Jennings, Oklahoma, and Sue Hunt, Fresco, California; three brothers, Lawrence, Troy and James Means, all of Fresno; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday in the Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Hubert Sponsler and the Rev. Aaron Barton officiating. Interment was in the Spade Mountain Cemetery.

Cora T. Means, 88-year-old resident, dies Sunday morning, Jan. 10, 1993 at St Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

She was born Oct. 26, 1904, in Shawnee to Paten and Nancy June (Atchley) Deason.

She moved to the Stilwell area as a young girl and made the Spade Mountain Community her home the remainder of her life. She was of Holiness faith and attended church regularly until she became disabled.

She was married to Thomas Means on Dec. 31, 1926. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1991. Others preceding her were her parents, one sister, Myrtle Pruett, three brothers, Ed, Homer, and John Deason, two grandsons, Tommy and Bryce Means, and one great-granddaughter, Gwen Means.

Survivors include: two daughters, Allene Watkins, Stilwell, and Bethel Woods, Westville; three sons, Carthel, Willie and Jerry Means, all of Stilwell; one sister, Stella Burgess, Stilwell; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stilwell with the Rev. Hubert Sponsler officiating. Interment in the Spade Mountain Cemetery was under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.
