Funeral services for William Turtle, 86, of Chewey will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Illinois River Baptist Church in Chewey with Pastors Wayne Forrest and John Goodrich, officiating. Burial will follow in the Chewey Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Pallbearers will be Wayne Turtle, John Turtle, James Ray Turtle, Jason Turtle, Phillip Turtle and Joel Sands. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Turtle and Billy Dale Hildebrand.

William was born on June 13, 1914 to Nellie (Manning) and Adam Turtle in Chewey and he attended school there. William entered in the United States Army on March 25, 1941 and was Honorably Discharged on October 20, 1945. He attended CC Camp at Bull Hollow and earned the EAME Service Ribbon and one Silver Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Service Ribbon. William married Della Mae Kelley and their marriage was blessed with seven children. He worked as a truck driver in Drumright, Okla. and worked as a cook at Allens Canning Factory in Westville for over 25 years. William enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member and enjoyed attending the Illinois River Baptist Church near Watts.

William passed away on April 9 at W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Okla. William as preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Della, an infant sister, and an infant granddaughter Robin.

William is survived by his sons, Lester Turtle and wife, Pat, of Watts, Paul Wayne Turtle and wife, Nancy, of Proctor, O.J. Turtle and wife, Lucinda, of Oaks, Bill Turtle, T.J. Turtle and wife, Renee, and Dean Turtle, all of Chewey; a daughter, Phyllis Turtle of Watts; one brother, Tony Turtle of Chewey; 13 grandchildren; seven great grand-children, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
