Geraldine "Sister" Turtle, 78, of Kansas, OK, passed away on June 12, 2012, in Siloam Springs, AR. She was born August 27, 1933 in Proctor, OK to the late Tom and Nannie Sands. Geraldine was a member of the Twin Oaks Baptist Church, former WMU & youth director, directed and taught Sunday school for a number of years, and served in the church kitchen, she enjoyed playing cards, catfish, and watching her family grow. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wyley Turtle, and one daughter Jennifer Turtle.
Four daughters: Christine Sands of Kansas, OK, Barbara "Lu Lu" Russell and husband Jackie of Kansas, OK, Ella Sue Sands of Tahlequah, OK, Terrie Tarin and husband Rick of Kansas, OK; Five Sons: Tommy Sands and wife Becky of Kansas, OK, Stoney Turtle and wife Caren of Ada, OK, Wyley Judd Turtle and wife Anita of Kansas, OK, Dee Turtle and wife Tina of Kansas, OK, Mike Turtle and wife Pam of Tahlequah, OK.
Two Sisters: Nancy Kihega of Claremore, OK, Charlene "Gaya" Pickup and husband Richard "Duke" of Kenwood, OK; Four Brothers: Scott McLemore of Tahlequah, OK, David "Head" Sands and wife Jonita of Chewey, OK, Sonny Sands of Chewey, OK, Woodrow Red Sands of Chewey, OK.
29 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Geraldine was preceded in death 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from noon to 5 pm at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, AR, followed by a family gathering at the Illinois River Baptist Church in Chewey, OK. Funeral Services will be at 2 PM, Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Kansas High School gymnasium with the Rev. Charlie Shell and Rev. Duke Pickup officiating. Burial will follow at Sands Cemetery in Chewey, OK. Services are under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Siloam Springs, AR.
